Ramadan

  • Ramadan – the holy month is celebrated on the 9th month of the Islamic year. Ramadan will take place from approx June 19- July 18, 2015 (dep on the sighting of the moon). Hotels are cheaper during this period. During this month, the muslims do not eat, drink or smoke from sunrise to sunset. Visitors are expected to not drink, smoke or eat in public during the day, and to show respect towards fasting locals or residents. Several restaurants are closed until evening and no alcohol is served (also in the hotels) before 7pm. There are no live music events or belly dancing in the desert during this time.Ramadan ends with a 3 day long holiday called Eid Al Fitr.
  • Ramadan is a great period to see the local culture in UAE. If you visit during this time, make sure to include a visit to one of the large Lftar or suhoor buffets in the hotels and restaurants. The shopping malls are also open longer this month, and there are several cultural events during the evening and night hours.
